[aisle] Food in the library?

Hey All,
We are a food free high school library partly because we have had rodent
problems in the past. We have a high number of students who have "homeroom
lunch" or 3rd period lunch, which is basically breakfast. I totally
understand why our students are tempted to eat in the library during
their study hall. So our goal is often just to let students know what
their eating options are.
We have signage (that students don't read), make announcements of our rules
at the beginning of the year, and remind students of the rules when we
catch them. We always offer alternative options ("You can eat your snack in
the courtyard, cafe, etc.") - students are usually unaware of the rule or
unaware of where they ARE allowed to eat during their study hall.
If students are repeat offenders I explain our occasional mouse problem.
Once students understand there's an actual reason for the rule and it's not
just arbitrary tyranny, they comply. It's important to look at why your
students are eating in the library if you want to win this battle - what
are their other eating options? Is it their lunch period and they are
avoiding the cafeteria? There may be some underlying issues that need to be
addressed.
