[aisle] Maus

Caution is fine but self-censorship is not. Caution may mean that you
provide some additional scaffolding for a book - opportunity to discuss it
for instance. Or you group it with other books covering the same topics in
a display so the student anticipates that it deals with heavy topics even
if it is a graphic novel. We have to resist the freezing effect that
censors count on creating. They win even if they don't get their way
through the official channels because they cause people to act in ways that
enable them to still get what they wanted all along. Please continue to
resist. Your students deserve full access to ideas.

I am super sorry to hear that administrations don't always have your back
as fully as they should. We have much room for advocacy and education about
the profession...

Thank you for your work,
Joan
