[aisle] Going 1:1... any practical advice?

We have been 1:1 with chromebooks for about six years now. In our case
students come to the library when they need a loaner. We have carts with
some loners in them, which are bar coded. We do not pass out chargers,
because if they need a loaner because they forgot theirs, it running out of
charge impels students to return them. We give out loaners if they need a
repair, in which case we fill in a google form, and our tech department is
shared on the spreadsheet for that, so they know when they are chromebooks
to collect. The form asks for Name/grade/serial number of chromebook/if
the student got a loaner/checkboxes for what is wrong (I used our tech
handbook list)/ and a line that lets me fill in additional information.
(Phrased as "what the student said happened"). If a student needs their
chromebook charged, I will charge it in the cart (we designated a small
section for that). If they need a loaner due to a charging issue or they
forgot it, we give it to them if we have enough. We have had days we ran
out of loaners due to a high volume of repairs, so there is a natural
consequence built in that some days we don't have one to give them. If we
notice a student is coming in a lot, we will ask them what is going on,
just to follow up. After year two, I think, we also started a chromebook
repair class, which comes and gets the broken ones, repairs them, and
returns them.
A couple of years ago we also started a clipboard for our library use only,
where we right down name/date/chromebook number/ why they have one. About
once a week we go through it and check it against our circulation system to
see if the student still has it out - It does sound redundant, and it is a
bit, but it has helped us figure out situations a lot of the time.
Sorry this is so long - let me know if you need any clarification.
