We use the term World Language in cataloging because our department does.

Subject: Re: [aisle] Spanish Fiction

Our books in international languages (I cringe a little at "foreign") are cataloged with the full language name, such as
SPANISH
FIC
GRE

or

RUSSIAN
398.2
ABC

We have books in every language taught at our high school, plus books in the languages often spoken by our EL students. I truly only buy what I can get from Follett School Solutions.
At first, I chose some classic texts originally written in each language (i.e. Tolstoy in Russian) but we have found students most often want popular books in translation. Start with the books nominated for the Lincoln Award, and move on from there.

Good Morning! I have books in multiple languages... Spanish, Arabic, Polish, Korean, etc. in their own foreign language section for multiple reasons. First, it helps our ELL teachers and students find them easily. Some of them are already struggling to make appropriate reading choices in English, so this at least makes finding books in their comfortable first language easy for them. And second, I don't want them getting lost or damaged by students who don't speak a second language. I understand that kids are curious, but I don't need the general population causing unnecessary wear and tear just because they think it's funny to check out Diary of a Wimpy Kid in Korean.

I have them catalogued as Foreign Language so that the call number and spine label look like this:
FOR
KOREAN
KINNEY

or...

FOR
ARABIC
COLLINS

Hope this helps!

We are beginning to obtain more and more Spanish Fiction books. Where do you catalog them? 800's? Do you make a special section?
