I don't have a good YA novel that comes to mind but these memoirs might work for the student.  Each deals with the dangers that law enforcement officers face.

I have a student who would like to find a novel about the dangers police officers face on the job. One of our local police officers was murdered while on duty, and another officer was critically injured and is fighting for his life as we speak.
