[aisle] YA book diverse, ideally LGBRQ+, hopeful

57 Bus is an absolutely great book, but it deals with some very heavy, difficult topics to get to the hopeful message at the end.

If you’re looking for something that has LGBTQ+ characters that is also a bit lighter (but still rich), I recommend Becky Albertalli’s work. She wrote Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda, a book that deals with some heavy topics but with humor and love. She has quite a few other works that are written with positivity, hope, and the experience of someone who has clinically worked with LGBTQ+ kids (she was a clinical psychologist). She’s also co-written with Adam Silvera.
