[aisle] Smelly Books

The smell of cat pee can indicate meth & several librarians reported drug productions in cat-less houses being found as a result of the smell on their children's books.

It was a FB post not a listserv but even though I searched all my library groups I can't find it again. I'm guessing, given the topic involved, that the OP took it down after getting some good answers.

My favorite way to take the smell out of books is to hang them on the clothes line..... Sunshine and fresh air will fix many problems.

Sometimes it helps just to prop the book open to air out.  I have also placed books in plastic storage bags with some baking soda to help remove smells. Thankfully the smell you mentioned is not one I have had to deal with yet.  Good luck!
