VIRTUAL SUMMER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Illinois Holocaust Museum is offering a brand-new Summer Institute on Teaching About Historical & Contemporary Antisemitism. From covering the roots of antisemitism, to more recent hate crimes and pandemic-related Holocaust distortion, this 2-day institute brings together scholars and advocates currently working in the field to provide a more well-rounded understanding of antisemitism, along with activities and resources to use in your classroom.
TEACHING ABOUT HISTORICAL & CONTEMPORARY ANTISEMITISM
July 12 - 13 | 9:00 am - 3:30 pm (CT)* | 7th - 12th Grade Educators
Open to educators from all states and countries.

Through this introductory institute, teachers will begin an investigation into historical and contemporary antisemitism. Over the course of this two-day seminar, participants will become familiar with the content area, literacy-based teaching methods, and resources to teach about the history of antisemitism and address current issues of antisemitism with their students. The course will include primary source readings, use of historical documents, multimedia presentations, guest speakers, and will draw interdisciplinary connections that align with state and national standards.

Session topics include:
·         The Ancient Roots of Modern Antisemitism
·         The Rise of Racial Antisemitism and its Influence on Nazi Ideology
·         Antisemitism in the United States
·         Muslims, the Holocaust, and Antisemitism
·         Contemporary Holocaust Distortion
·         Antisemitism and the State of Israel
·         Recognizing and Responding to Expressions of Antisemitism

All sessions will be held over Zoom.
