[aisle] Book Challenge Issue

My words -- hold tight! *Gender Queer* was nominated by Illinois high
school students for the Lincoln Award because they love it. It is an
important book. They deserve to read it. Defend this (and all of the books)
with your whole professional self. Use positive reviews to show how this
book is essential for all students to read. Use your district's selection
and reconsideration policy/procedures to hold the line. Do not agree to
limit your students' intellectual freedom.

At the Nov 2022 AISLE conference in Tinley Park (registration opens this
summer!), we will be hosting an intellectual freedom panel of school
librarians, school administrators, and students using *Gender Queer* as a
case study. Hear how other schools handled a challenge to this book. Hear
from the Lincoln Award committee why they chose this book for the 2023
list. Hear from a student who shared her opinion at school board meetings.
Be inspired to stand up for #Freadom.
