[aisle] using books in story walks

Thanks! I did just give the librarian permission. She has 2 copies of the book for a school of 240 students and will scan the book to use in the story walk. She did say that she’ll ask the local bookstore to carry it and while neither she nor I can control if they do or not, it is what it is. 😊 Appreciate the information.

I do StoryWalks and to use the name, you need to purchase the books.  I usually purchase 3 copies: one for the front, one to use the back, and one to make replacements that fall off/get damaged/etc.

Here’s an off the wall question for all you media specialists, especially elementary schools. We just received a request from a school asking for permission to use one of our books in a nature story walk. We have worked with public libraries, nature centers and parks for these story walks. Usually public libraries buy enough copies of the book for their shelves to equal about $100. Nature centers and parks sell the book in their gift shop. I don’t think an individual school would be able to do either and, of course, we want to work with the school but we also have a fiduciary responsibility to the authors and illustrator who worked so hard to make the book.  

Have any of you ever used a book in a story walk and how have you handled? Curious minds want to know and I appreciate any and all thoughts/ideas.
