[aisle] using books in story walks

What a great idea to partner with a public library. Yes, I think some of the locations that have used our books have inserted pages into weatherproof covers. 😊

I partnered with the Northbrook Public Library to do several book walks.  They installed them in a part of our property where the kids literally walked around in a circle to read the books.  Teachers loved it as a chance to get the kids up and moving in a productive way.  Everyone seemed to like the idea.  I'm not sure the books were as engaging as they could be, but the concept is fun.

Weather considerations: One of our poster slides (not sure that's what they are called) flew away on a windy day.  NBPL came over and replaced it right away.

I love this idea!

Here’s an off the wall question for all you media specialists, especially elementary schools. We just received a request from a school asking for permission to use one of our books in a nature story walk. We have worked with public libraries, nature centers and parks for these story walks. Usually public libraries buy enough copies of the book for their shelves to equal about $100. Nature centers and parks sell the book in their gift shop. I don’t think an individual school would be able to do either and, of course, we want to work with the school but we also have a fiduciary responsibility to the authors and illustrator who worked so hard to make the book.  

Have any of you ever used a book in a story walk and how have you handled? Curious minds want to know and I appreciate any and all thoughts/ideas.
