Here’s some info for all those that asked about D&D.

The current edition of the rules is 5th edition. They play pre-1st edition
and 1st edition in Stranger Things.

The basics of the rules are in The Players Handbook, Dungeon Master’s
Guide, and Monster Manual. There are many supplemental books. Some contain
pre-made adventures; others just have additional resources.

As far as books set in the D&D world, there are actually several D&D worlds
[Forgotten Realms, Krynn (Dragonlance), Greyhawk, Dark Sun, and Spelljammer
just name the major ones].

If you follow this link https://dnd.wizards.com/fiction
it will actually take you to a page with links to both fiction and
non-fiction books. It also has graphic novels and books for younger
readers.

Personally, I love RA Salvatore’s books (his Drizzt character is a beloved
character appearing in MANY books)the most. But I also like Douglas Niles,
James Ward + Anne Brown (together), and Ed Greenwood. All of them set their
books in the Forgotten Realms world.

While it has been a few decades since I’ve read most of my personal
collection of books, I do not recall reading anything that would be bad for
junior high and high school kids. But don’t quote me on that.

One more thing about D&D: there is a web series called Critical Role, which
has become quite popular.

Hope that helps (and doesn’t inundate you).

If anyone has any more questions, please reach out to me. I can talk D&D
forever.
