Dear Friends,

I wanted to share a couple upcoming professional development opportunities
that I thought you'd be interested in.

The Chicago screening for the 12th annual 90-Second Newbery Film Festival
<https://90secondnewbery.com/events> is Saturday, March 11 at 2pm at the
Pritzker Auditorium at the Harold Washington Library Center (400 S. State
St. The 90-Second Newbery is an annual film festival in which kid
filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of
Newbery-winning books in about 90 seconds (adult help OK). These movies
often have a creative twist—think "Charlotte’s Web" in the style of a
horror movie, or "Ramona and Her Father" reimagined as a musical, or
"Bridge to Terabithia" done in stop-motion animation! It is hosted by
authors James Kennedy (Dare To Know and The Order of Odd-Fish) and Keir
Graff (The Tiny Mansion, The Phantom Tower, and more). You can get free
tickets at

The American Library Association's Graphic Novels and Comics
Roundtable's Addressing
Challenges
<https://www.ala.org/rt/gncrt/preparing-and-addressing-challenges-comics-library-committee#:~:text=In%20February%202022%2C%20GNCRT%20launched,and%20graphic%20novels%20in%20libraries.>
committee is hosting a webinar, "Preparing for Challenges to Comics and
Graphic Novels: What To Do When You Get One" on Wednesday, March 15 at 4pm
CST. "Getting a challenge can be upsetting and isolating. Our panel of
librarians, creators and advocates will discuss how they dealt with
challenges to comics and graphic novels, and offer strategies for deciding
how to handle them. They will discuss steps you can take as soon as you get
a challenge and will provide tactics for responding to challenges,
preparing defense, and gathering support. Attendees will leave with
actionable steps for responding to challenges and making sure they aren't
alone in the fight." You can register at
https://bit.ly/PreparingForChallenges2. The webinar will be recorded.

Please share with any others who you think would be interested or benefit
from attending. Feel free to share any questions with me about either of
these events.

Thank you so much,

Eti
