<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Gene Luen Yang's fee including travel and accommodations will be close to $10,000.00. We split it three ways: school, public library and university, and then we split the school portion between the library, the
PTO and the Freshman English Department.</p>

<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">We started developing our proposal with his agent after he was named National Ambassador for Children's Literature but before he won the MacArthur Genius Grant. We had to plan his visit a year in advance to get
a date he was available that we were in school.</p>

<p style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;">Our Freshman English classes read
<em>American Born Chinese </em>and have for years so by now every student has read--and most own a personal copy--of his work. They will be selling his books at the event at the public library, but we won't be here at school.</p>

been 18 months from the start of our planning to the date he was available to visit, but every student is our school has read his work and his message is relevant. </p>
