I feel like participating in the reader’s choice awards should not entail any extra in school or homework, besides the reading. When it is time to vote, I have them fill out a Google form, which includes one question about why the book was their favorite. Teachers read the books as read alouds, and I read the shorter ones in library. We talk at the beginning of the year and at voting time about character counts, and how we should be telling the truth about if we read the books. Many students participate, and I see them gleefully checking out the books.
