You could do the research to help them discover a question and then prepare what data is already out there. They summarize that data and define the experiment based on what might be missing.<div><br></div><div>For example, you read an article about BPA leaking into bottled water. You discuss how does that happen? You research it and find that it is because of the plastic. You research the history of BPA and what BPA is etc. Then you move the class to think about what else comes in plastic that also might be contaminated by BOA. What about Milk? Students then research how to test for BPA.</div><div>Student then can devise the experiment based on their research and the work has also been done for their lit review.</div><div><br></div><div>I did part of my National Boards on teaching science. I recently saw an article about "Chocolate Milk" and Athletes and noted that it would be an interesting sample topic as it would allow students to see how newspapers and magazines popularize research and compare it to the original research article. To expand,
students could also discuss funding of research and how the Got Milk? campaign used the research.

CPS and CPL databases. Wondering what others do, particularly at the high school level, and if you have any materials to share.
