<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">I’d like to try and start a chapter for librarians in the South suburbs. I feel we could potentially have enough interested members to make this a
thing. Roughly, I would say if you’re south of Chicago, from Indiana to maybe Joliet, south around the Alsip area and as far south as Peotone or Manteno, you’d be welcome to participate. If you’re close to that area and are interested, fill out the form anyway.
Depending on the demand we could easily break this into more localized groups.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Why might you be interested in joining a chapter?</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> AISLE Chapter Rep
<span style="color:#222222">Katherine Hlousek</span> says “One benefit of Chapter membership is advocacy. We are stronger together and if one area is facing a challenge, perhaps others aren’t even aware. Professional development and networking are also major
benefits. For many, Chapters are a way to connect with fellow librarians at a more personal level than just at conference or over the listserv. Chapters have come up with creative events from looking at assessments to book studies to events held at bookstores,
comic stores, or game stores.” Chapter members can use information from neighboring schools and librarians to advocate for their own position or budget, find out about local PDs you may have missed otherwise, discuss evaluation procedures with someone in
a very similar situation, and more.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"> It would be nice to just have connections with librarians in similar sized populations, demographics, income levels, et cetera, to be able to quickly
connect with. We will need at least 10 members and a minimum of 50% must be AISLE members.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
