<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:8pt;line-height:11.75pt">House Bill 234 the Media Literacy Bill has passed the House and is now scheduled to be heard in the Senate Education Committee on Tuesday, May 18, at 1:00 p.m. This bill has been endorsed
by AISLE and ILA. The bill requires every high school to include in their curriculum instruction on media literacy beginning with the 2021-2022 school year.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:8pt;line-height:11.75pt">It has been a goal of AISLE and other organizations to make sure that students make good choices in the use of media in all its formats. Learning how to find reliable sources and to understand
media bias are important tools not only for schoolwork but also as an active citizen of the 21<sup>st</sup> century.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:8pt;line-height:11.75pt">The AISLE Board has voted to send a letter of support for this bill to the Senate Education Committee. The bill must pass in committee to be voted on in the Senate. If it passes, it then goes
to Governor Pritzker for his signature.<u></u><u></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:8pt;line-height:11.75pt">Here is your opportunity to be an advocate for this bill. You can be a proponent by filing a witness slip for the bill before it is heard in committee. The Illinois General Assembly has a
website where you can send this slip electronically to the committee.<u></u><u></u></p>
