Then we take a tour of different sections each week - nonfiction (esp. wild animals, pets, and natural disasters, which mine seem to enjoy!), graphic novels, biographies (even Kinders know who Messi is), and so on, until by the end of the first quarter they are comfortable with the library. We also work with them on using spacers and self-checkout, as well as respecting each other's privacy. I have bench seating I had custom made (and I upholstered) so I could put all of my paperback books into baskets by author. <div dir="ltr">When I had Kindergarten, I would choose several books myself and would display them out on the tables for kids to make a selection. It would make it easier to choose the books as the students can see the covers. You could have a theme for the
week and read a book to go along with it. It also limited going to the shelves which makes it easier for you and them. Later in the year if you feel they are ready, you could have small groups go to the shelves.
