I also talk matter-of-factly to them to have a good plan to charge and bring them every day.</div><div><br></div><div>I also ask the teachers to send students first thing in the morning 1st class period. Most of the time this works so I am not interrupted all day. I am trying to limit it to just first thing in the morning. If I have a class and am teaching they have to figure it out on their own or go without. Some teachers let them charge in their rooms.<br><br></div><div>It is a work in progress but limiting the number of times borrowed before there is a consequence helps the students be more responsible. Much the same way they would have to make due if they forgot their textbook. They use their phones to access Schoology (our LMS) or any thing that they NEED to do for the day. The only exception we make is when a student is taking a test, and the teacher notifies the library and/ or the tech director for specific permission to loan out a device for that period. We then check out the device to the student for the period with a limited loan period and then it's returned. (the more hoops that need to be jumped seems to deter the borrowing). If a student didn't return a device, we are able to put the device in LOST mode, with a message to return to the library, which essentially makes it unusable and they return it to the library.</div><div>We have a charging station at the circulation desk, but that requires the to plug in their device and leave it at the circ desk (unattended) for a period, while it charges up. (many students walk away and forget them and return later for them... we leave them right where they are). In classrooms, teachers often allow students to charge their devices during class (some do, some don't... it depends on the teacher). but that's dependent on students carrying their chargers with them.</div><div><br></div><div>Students also often leave devices charging in the cafe or commons, our policy is that they are all returned to the library and placed in lost mode. Students/ staff etc, know (now) to come to the library, first if a device is lost or missing. This helps so there is one place for everyone to go to start the search process. Sometimes teachers would place a device in a drawer or cabinet to give back to the student later.... but would forget, etc. This eliminates a lot of confusion.</div><div><br></div><div>We're always tweaking and trying to make it better. But this is what we have right now.
