<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large">We've been 1:1 since covid began. Something I wish we'd do...have a cleaning station so they can come in and wipe down their CB. When they come for help it's shocking the condition some are in. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large">Our LRC is in charge of everything to try to keep a working CB in the students' hands. Only when there's no hope does it go to tech. For our tech department, I keep track of CBs that leave a student, return and the loaners in a program called Incident IQ. Do not recommend. It's 14 steps to check out a loaner. If there's an easier way, it must be a highly classified secret to which I have no clearance. I have a loaner cart we use for all borrowed CBs: broken, lost, not charged and forgotten. For my sanity, students fill out <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/13eIW2w-Z1sjRZLuRDJXjE8eAv4hE6gzn0fkZ5HJOLRQ/copy">this form</a> for everything except a quick fix. I've numbered and put yellow neon duct tape across the front of all CBs as a reminder to students and teachers that it's a loaner. The tape comes off without issue. Parts are hard to come by so have LOTs of loaners available. You'll need them. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large">Loaners are the bane of my existence. I used my form to not only input data into IIQ on my own time but also to do a CTRL F to find an ID# quickly to see how many times they've borrowed. My principal finally agreed to allow me to have the student contact home (<a href="https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZQkzzHpJ5wvRpBaHMZynija_cIIKanVt8bR-ITgpZz4/copy">our script</a>) <i><u>themselves</u></i> after 3x. I have frequent fliers going on 12x. However, after the call/text I typically won't see them again for about 2wks. A frequent flier is hard to keep grounded. Don't stress about it. The student is stressed enough for the both of you. <br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large">You'll need good communication between you and your secretary if you're in charge of providing CBs to new students. Learned the hard way that I have to remember to charge them so they're ready. Your stash of CBs for new students are deader than a doornail if they sit for a while. Also, setting up their passwords...who does that with them? Our counselor does most of the time but try to make it clear who has that job. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-family:garamond,times new roman,serif;font-size:large">Power cords...I do not give them out and I do not have a charging station. They leave their dead CB with me, so they don't have to carry around two, and they borrow. Some teachers leave their chargers plugged in for community use. Only a few have walked off. It's first come first serve for that power source and any other outlets if students bring their own cord. They are not supposed to charge at school but it's a battle we surrendered to long ago. Lots of kids share cords and survive daily without ever charging at home. If your school had protocols set up, I'd love to see them. I've seen a lot of high level "this is how 1:1 will change everything" and low level "Q: What happens when my child forgets to charge their device?
