[ISLMA-Share] handheld inventory scanner

I have had pretty good luck with either connecting a scanner to a laptop (the trick is the scanner is looking for a keyboard signal so you have to pair an old keyboard with the scanner.)

Likewise, it also works really well to pair a blue tooth scanner with an iPad. Scan all the barcodes into a Pages document. Email to yourself as a Word. Save as plain text and then upload. (It's not as easy to find books in the wrong spot or identify items that were missed on check in. Although that probably never happens to anyone else...)

The price of new ones are a bit alarming, but I am willing to spend it if that is the best route to go. I met with my tech guy today and he had another idea. He said I could buy an ipod touch along with the Honeywell SL22 (it's a scanner that you slide the ipod into). He said it will work better with our wifi....and a bunch more "tech" pros that I don't quite understand. The ipod would be $199 and the scanner is $260, so it would really be a cost savings. I could even afford to purchase 2 of these since I share our inventory scanner with 3 libraries, thus improving of efficiency. Thoughts?
