[ISLMA-Share] Stolen Library Materials

If the item is a book and it's lost or stolen, then I accept replacements. So technically a family could buy a used, in good condition book and I would accept that in lieu of the $30 replacement fee we charge. At Amazon, one can sometimes get books in great condition for $.01 plus $3.99 shipping.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [ISLMA-Share] Stolen Library Materials

Good morning. I have a conundrum that I would like some advice on....

A student came to us and said that the library material she borrowed from us was stolen from her. What do you do in situations like this? Do you still have the student who borrowed the material pay for the lost item, or do something else? Do you have different consequences when the item borrowed is a book vs. headphones, etc?

My gut is telling me that the student is still responsible for the materials they borrowed and therefore should pay for a replacement, but I'm wondering what other schools do in situations like this.

Thanks for all your help!
