Although I am in a middle school, I thought I would chime in. I have an
application for student workers that includes asking them to put 10 fiction
books in order and 10 nonfiction books, when they arrive at school (we have
no study halls so all work is done before school), and why they want to
work in the library. I also ask for reference from a teacher. Talking to
the teacher is always enlightening because behavior in the library and
classroom is not always the same I've found.

If high school students are getting out of study hall to help, I would ask
about grades and how often they use their study hall to actually study.
You might find your helpers need to do their homework and aren't much
help. The teacher reference would help with this, too.
