Every year library advocates go to Washington, D.C. for the American
Library Association's National Library Legislative Day. There are sessions
on the first day so that attendees know about the issues and receive
talking points for the meetings on the second day. The meetings are often
with staff persons who keep the U.S. Senator or Congressman informed of
what their constituents are saying about the impact of proposed bills and
appropriations.

ALA has launched the Virtual Library Legislative Day (VLLD) website

for
2017. VLLD runs concurrently with National Library Legislative Day on May
1-2 and encourages library advocates who cannot attend NLLD in person to
call, tweet, or email their members of Congress and convey their support
for libraries. Those interested in VLLD should register online

to
receive resources and talking points, as well as a reminder to take action,
as VLLD approaches.

Now more than ever it is important for the Illinois delegation to hear from
library supporters. Please register and participate in VLLD for this year.
