We check out 60 ChromeBooks from carts every hour. I entered the Chrome
Books into Destiny, numbering them and printing barcodes for each laptop.
Then I created a sheet with columns for each hour. There are student
workers who scan a student's ID and then scan the bar code on the Chrome
Book. The sheet is set up to automatically go row to row when scanned. We
can get 60 Chrome Books out to students in under 5 minutes. At the end of
the hour we call for the computers back before the bell rings so we can put
them all away in the carts into the numbered slot that corresponds to the
number on the computer. This way we make sure every Chrome Book is
accounted for before the bell rings. We have done this for years and have
no vandalism or loss. The students know we can track who has each Chrome
Book, so they don't try anything. Works for us. Email me off list and we
can talk more.
I actually like the Chrome Books better than the lab setting, even though
we still have a computer lab. It allows for more collaborative work and
the students are still a part of the library.
