Hi Everyone,

When I set procedures for my library, I try to keep in mind what my end
goal is. My goal is to encourage students to read as much as possible.
While I think the responsibility piece is important, it is not my main
goal. When I set limits on how many books students can have checked out at
a time it is only based on how many I think we can shelve when they are
returned. If a student is allowed to have 5 books out, it does not matter
if some of those are overdue (although we do send notices once a week as a
reminder).

Obviously, procedures are going to change based on our situations and grade
levels served, but I do think our procedures send a subtle message to our
students about what we really think is important.
