[aisle] Circulation desks and library renovation

Hi,
I’m at a middle school and the library is being renovated over the summer. In a meeting with the architects and consultants I mentioned that I did not want a huge circulation desk like we have now. The architects took that to mean I did not want a desk at all and the plans came back with no circ desk and two kiosks by the doors for self checkout.

Of course the administration has fallen in love with these ideas, and the plans have no where on the floor for a staff workspace. I’ve explained that we need a spot to actually work at and the response was the entire library is our office. Does anyone have a library with no staff workspace? If so how do you like it?

Does anyone who recently renovated a space have any articles that support having a central point of contact in the library so that students know where they can find assistance?

Thanks
