I LOVE this idea.  I was born in Bolivia so the book you mentioned really
intrigues me.

The Sakura Medal is a book award program in Japan much like the Monarch or
the Lincoln here.  They often have US authors on their list but have
Japanese authors and sometimes other international authors as well.  There
is an English list and a Japanese list.
