[aisle] Librarians in contract?

I agree with Jacob about exploring opportunities to discuss undergraduate
programs.

As one of the last undergraduate students of library science education at
Illinois State University, I advocated for the reinstatement of an
undergraduate major or minor in our state colleges of education, and I
encountered closed minds and whispered comments of "not possible" and
"backward thinking."

If any university folks are following this thread, the interest is there.
My high school students ask every year why they can't find a
"librarian-type" major among undergraduate academic choices at any in-state
universities. The need for more school librarians, beyond replacing
retirees, may be appearing on the horizon. If school librarians are
essential, maybe it is time to open the undergraduate discussion. It has
big money potential for the university that snags those on-campus undergrad
students for all 4 years. It takes nothing away from the established
master's degree as a person can hold a bachelor's and master's in the same
subject area. And it gives our profession another avenue to train and
nurture future school librarians.
