[aisle] Pros & Cons of Inventory by Collection

I think another reason to inventory is to delete any records of books that
are somehow "missing." No matter how careful I am, a few books in the
inventory come up as missing. I mark them as such, look everywhere I can
think of to look for them (in repairs, on display, in a pile on my desk,
etc.). It can be marked lost and then deleted after a year or two.

Also, now and then a book is discovered on the shelf that had been
previously checked out to someone. Oops. Again, we are careful but now
and then it occurs.

I agree with inventory sections of the library at a time, such as Fiction,
Graphic Novels, etc. In fact, I do a rotation so I am never trying to
inventory the whole library in one school year. The whole thing gets done
over maybe a 5-year rotation.

I hope this helps.
