We allow snacks and drinks in the library at Willowbrook High School. We have water, juice and snack machines in a tiled "cafe" area. I used to restrict students to snacking in the cafe area, but found that resulted in wrappers being hidden in chairs and sofas. Two years ago I lifted that restriction, and the mess has gone done significantly.
Students are expected to clean up after themselves. We remind when necessary, but overall I am happy with their cooperation.

Hi my fellow librarian peeps,
We are trying to change the culture at my school to be more inclusive of allowing students to eat snacks in the library. Are there any HS librarians that are willing to share their policy and experience with food? Thanks in advance for all your help.
Best,
Jennette
