The prologue of The Compound by Boden and the prologue of Solider X by
Wulffson are my favs. I used the book Ghost Boys by Rhodes recently and
that went well. Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom has an awesome first
sentence as well as Black Storm Coming and Dead Girls Don't Write Letters.
I read the first paragraph of the first three chapters of the Misadventures
of Mad Maude March. I also like to have the kids do exactly what the
italicized words of the first part of chapter one and two in The Thing
About Georgie.
