[aisle] HS Library Student Assistants - activities/responsibilities

One thing we have tried out this year with our aides that is going well is having each aide “be in charge of a section” (i.e. student is responsible for shelving and keeping books organized for a specific area of the library). We had a problem where aides earlier in the day were doing all of the shelving, so then 7th period aides never had to shelve. By giving each of them a section, everyone shelves and our shelves stay much more organized.

I should also note that seniors are the only students that are allowed to aide, so we also trust them with checking in and out books. We just do not give them permission to collect fines or do anything with money.

When we had them, those are the things we had them do. I also found that saving projects like labeling, stamping, etc. were good for them, if they are careful about placement.
