Subject: Re: [aisle] K-5 Technology Resources

Many of my K-2 library lessons incorporate tech.

  *   Learn how to log-on and log-off a Chromebook
  *   Bookmark a site
  * Navigate to Library Google Classroom (especially important for remote learning!) where they can click on links.
  * Finding the Library website where they can find and click on StorytimeOnline and Epic! books.

I also pair up tech fun with books:

  * Pete's a Pizza by William Stieg (or any pizza-themed book) and then "Make a Pizza" game on abcya.com<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fabcya.com&c=E,1,3dtjurljtSmwnqKcJ7aM8hbYbD1ippk6wmpZT6SDiKI4egoCoJ6ND3dlIFCbZVMnlfPuoIrc9jbK-O8htPauZ-jYNH4UDDFUDEtES90gMDc-qeNU6h4,&typo=1> (practicing trackpad skills)
  * Peanut Butter & Cupcake by Terry Border (any cake book) and then "Make a Cupcake" game on abcya.com<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fabcya.com&c=E,1,dIvhpusdlcnOCAfVYbSkUulbyYwC8k0kHHlWi-6tM6KCSBVQvm97WN0qDErlzZlT4HfA8PlKPnHL_6VK6pilAwOVzzW2740UyhK1mSZTMgEWUgq6OPqmpEal&typo=1> (lots of the abcya.com<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fabcya.com&c=E,1,WEy2t1IxM1nN5JUc0PNTOBpb8qMOtnWDyIRbpxO4srASZyGM0oRN87c5I7HPvkColIZg8IpTFqJoQ-PuuaIbe1j_mfVeSf7Ocwv0wHzKGAY,&typo=1> games can be easily paired with books)
  * Moon! Earth's Best Friend by Stacy McAnulty (any space book) and then get out the Merge Cubes to look at the solar system
  * Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli, then we identify adults in the school who probably don't get a Valentine (secretaries, counselor, janitors, lunch ladies, etc.) and we use Google Docs to write them a Valentine's letter. (teaching how to use Google Docs -- open a Doc, name a Doc, find their Drive, change font, color, size)
  * ABC books (choose a variety) -- then we pick a topic and write our own ABC book on Google Docs. Each student gets a letter of the alphabet and we do a few letters together as examples. Over the years we've written ABC books about Star Wars, Disney, sports, our school, animals, pets, our town, colors, etc.
  * Why Should People Vote? by Kristen Rajczak Nelson (any voting book), then learn to fill out a Google Form. We vote on fun things like favorite color, food, TV show. Or library things like which book we should read next, what is our favorite Monarch book, etc. Bonus: students learn how to read a bar chart and a pie chart!
  * Looking up information in WorldBook Online after we've read a book and want to know more. And WorldBook Online has plenty of interesting "games", too!

Hope this sparks some ideas for you!

Hi Jamie, et, al,
I would also like to know what librarians who teach tech do. I have K-2 kids and have been trying to introduce google products so they learn a bit more about what computers can do other than Youtube and video games.

I would love love love your suggestions!
Thanks in advance!

My elementary school has a fantastic tech department, so the library doesn’t handle student devices or technology assistance. I’d still like to incorporate more technology into the library. Anybody have any wonderful websites, tech tools, technology ideas, etc. that you use with/recommend to staff, students, and community members?
