Hi Everyone!

First time posting here and I need some advice.

I am thinking about doing a month-long reading Olympics challenge in
February to tie in with the Olympics. I have an idea but I am wondering if
anyone has ever done something like this.

Since I am in a K-5 school, I was thinking of breaking up the challenge for
K-2 and 3-5. My idea was that K-2 could read 2 books per week (likely with
their parents) and 3-5 could read 1 book per week (or how many books they
want to-don't want to overload them). And then they would earn school
dollars (We have these dollars we pass out for kids to earn to win prizes
on a cart my principal takes from class to class) toward a fun prize. To
earn the dollar, they would have to talk to me or their teacher to document
it on a sheet I would create, so we can make sure they read the book. I
know we might not know if they read the whole book, but at least they would
be reading maybe something to earn the school dollars. I haven't decided if
they would get 1 or 2 dollars for reading the book-I am going to talk to my
principal on this part.

I know in these times it is hard, but I thought a fun reading challenge to
promote literacy could be fun. Has someone ever done something like this?
And if so, what were your game rules and protocols? Or am I overthinking?

Thanks Everyone-
Mitch Berman
