The first book that came to mind is The Flight of the Puffin by Ann Braden.
It is about four middle schoolers each living in vastly different parts of
the country (thus impacting their lived experiences) but still share common
dreams and goals. Far more about social sciences and emotional growth than
anything, but perhaps it could be tied in to students investigating the
different environments and resources available in the places the four main
characters each live in? Good luck!
